Review:

The Star Wars Combine is an interactive online Star Wars simulation. People play the sim from diverse nations around the globe. The Star Wars Combine is 100% free of charge, and is a non-profit game.

In the Combine you will be allowed to create a character of your own with several different races to choose from. Upon character creation, you will have the option to join a group from a hefty list of candidates. Life in the Combine galaxy is just like stepping into George Lucas's epic Star Wars universe with the primary difference being that, in the Combine, there are none of the original Star Wars characters. No Luke Skywalker, no Leia Organa, no Mon Mothma, etc, etc. However, the setting and general plot are the same, the ongoing war between the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance.

Though it is difficult to assess the time in comparison to the movies (since events and people are different between the two), it has been generally agreed upon that this game is set within the area of Episode IV: A New Hope and Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. However, with the new movies and new ideas, we will be incorporating ships and systems from the new trilogy as well.

And so it is written in there FAQ. I honestly have to say since I started playing on the Combine back in November of last year I have had nothing but fun. This game is still in development and many aspects don't work yet, like combat, but there are many more RPG experience to deal with. You have a ton of races to pick from and just as many factions that you can join. You can stay a freelancer but I would suggest starting in a faction and going from there. Its not just Rebel and Imp though. You can join the Hapes Consortium, the Chiss Ascendency, and any number of other governments, shipbuilders, weapons dealers. I have to give this game an A++ in my book but hey I am biased. Lets get some other peoples opinions. If you do join my name on the Combine is Bareck Justicar and I am a member of the Hapes Consortium. Fell free to drop me a line and I will help you figure out everything.

Should also make a note that you are only allowed one character and violaters of this rule are banned from the game.

I signed up on the SW Combine and joined a faction. There must be something I am missing because so far, there doesn't seem to be much to do. Maybe it depends on which faction you join. Because it is an all-volunteer created game, it is far from finished and I haven't found much in the way of documentation. So far, I've spent several hours just learning what I can do and not actually doing anything. The head of my guild gave me a ship but just flying one square away on the surface takes an hour of real-time. Is that always the case that actions take so much real-time?

Don't get me wrong. The premise seems very cool. I just can't seem to understand what I am supposed to be doing. Oh, and the leader of my faction said there doesn't seem to be much role playing anymore. Again, probably depends on which faction you join. I'll give it a few more chances and update again if I figure it out.

Well it does take a lot of real time to play. It is made that way so its fair for all the people around the world that live in different time zones. The Combat isn't out yet though so there is no fighting. Most of the game is done on faction boards. You can buy facilities and make money, you can buy ships also. In the actuall interface there really isn't much to do other then make money. Some factions require you to patrol systems, and others require you to build things. You may even haul cargo but not much else happens. I find most of the fun is at your faction site. thats if your faction is good. some of the good ones are CSA, the Empire, New Republic, and Hapes Consortium. Plus all there nationalized companies are pretty good also.
